Experience the life of the American cowboy for two adventure filled days in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Sit atop your trusty mount as you drive a herd of cattle across the prairie and partake in ranching traditions such as rodearing and sorting. There will also be time to simply relax as you ride through the rolling hills and take in the beautiful scenery.

Flint Hills Ranchin Adventures

Rex Buchman of the Bar U Ranch in Burdock Kansas and Matthew Jobe of the C Bar J Ranch in Windsor Missouri have teamed up yet again! This duo has been keeping the iconic western heritage of the United States alive in the present day, by providing authentic old west cattle drives and other adventures to the public. These adventures take place northwest of Strong City Kansas, on thousands of acres of the historical and scenic Flint Hills. On a typical drive weekend, these two authentic cowboys spend the first day educating on the history of cattle drives and the proper, humane ways of working cattle, roping, branding, sorting, reading a cow’s driving language, gathering and driving cattle. In the evenings we will retire to the ranch-owned guest house, The Stone Horse. The stately bed and breakfast has all the comforts of home, and a mix of old west and classic decor, sure to fit any demands. Located in a small western town, with the amenities to allow you to relax in a truly unique environment. Dinner, breakfast, and lunch on the trail are provided during most events. Our mealtime together allows a social gathering where you will get to know and meet lifelong friends as well as cut up with our truly humorous hosts. All the while taking in the beautiful views from an expansive front porch or the grand dining or sitting rooms. On day two the group will gather and drive the herd of cattle to their new pastures.

This experience will allow you moments of untouched peace and quiet, relaxing views, and a raw beauty unlike any you have seen before. The gentle rolling Flint Hills provides you with unique photography opportunities, and your new friends and the cattle will be willing subjects for you to capture your lifelong memories on “film.”

Bring your own horse or rent one of trail ready, highly trained, quality horses available. This team has the experience needed to set you up with the right horse to enhance your experience. Some prior riding experience is required for all participants, as this is not your typical trail ride. The drive involves several hours of riding through different terrains. However, they will cater to the needs and experience of the riders and provide quality education on horsemanship, and as a bonus, you are guaranteed to learn some history and jokes from these two seasoned storytellers.

This is a truly unique experience taking part in a western tradition, in a land that is raw and untouched by the modern era. A laid back, working environment that leaves your mind, and soul refreshed, like only nature and horses can do. One of the most underrated elements of this great horseback adventure is the folks you will be meeting and working with on the job. You will be sure to make some lifelong friends with other guests as well as with the gang running the show.

Who: Law Enforcement Officers, EMS, and Firefighters are invited to attend the April cattle drive. Our military brothers and sisters in arms apply for the November event.

Where: North West of Strong City, Kansas in the stunning Flint Hills. We have limited availability for sleeping arrangements at the ranch house, with shared rooms. This is on a first come first serve basis. Many people prefer privacy after a sweaty day on the trail and stay at nearby motels/hotels, at their expense. You may also stay in your horse trailers, too.

Cost: This retreat is dependent on the generous donations of our supporters. The cost for this once in a lifetime experience is $500 per person. This will provide lodging, food, and the cattle drive. Bring your own horse or rent one of the available mounts for $200. All donations are tax-deductible. If you would like to pay for one of our American Heroes to attend this incredible adventure donate $500 for one and $1000 for two!

There is a $100 non-refundable deposit unless the event is canceled due to uncontrolled circumstances. If the person attending the clinic is unable to attend, a weeks noticed is required to receive the $100 deposit and any other fees paid refunded. This is due to the cost of supplies, food, and rentals that are needed before the event. If you are donating for a person attending and they cancel, we will contact you to discuss options of sponsoring someone else, the event, or a refund.
